The Dead

4/21/2009    7:30 PM

The Dead, featuring original members Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann joined by keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and Allman Bros. Band/Gov’t Mule guitarist Warren Haynes will make their way to HSBC Arena on Tuesday, April 21, 2009.

Fan speculation of the tour started after a “Dead Heads for Obama” concert in February ’08 followed by a “Change Rocks” concert in October ’08 and several viral Internet videos.  The DEAD, originating from the Greatful Dead formed with the late Jerry Garcia in 1965, are legendary for their live performances and “Dead Head” fan base.

Back with their first tour since 2004, guitarist/singer Bob Weir says in an interview posted on www.Dead.net, We’ve got some unfinished business…Everybody has a whole new bag of tricks; we have the body of material we worked up over the years and we have a mind meld going on here and it would be a sin to let that just wither and die.” Drummer Mickey Hart added, “A mind meld is a terrible thing to waste.” Bassist Phil Lesh says, “For me, it’s the question mark that’s really pulling me in…what’s gonna happen? When you walk out on the stage the possibilities are infinite every time. The musical possibilities are infinite: there is no end to it, there’s no back wall and there’s no ceiling, there’s no floor. It’s infinite and therefore you can still explore it till the day that you die.”  Drummer Bill Kreutzmann says, “I get goosebumps just thinking about the possibilities.”

The Grammy winning Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame group melded the sound of country, bluegrass, electric rock and jazz that formed an iconic sound creating hits such as, “Truckin’”, “Casey Jones”, and “Sugar Magnolia”.
