SABAH Celebration on Ice 2009

SABAH, Skating Athletes Bold At Heart will highlight the accomplishments of hundreds of local athletes with disabilities in its 2009 Celebration on Ice Show  on Sunday, March 22, 2009  at 3:00 PM at HSBC Arena.  WGRZ’s weatherman Kevin O’Connell, sports announcer and former Sabre Rob Ray and radio announcer Airborne Eddy will emcee this years show.
 
The theme of the organization’s 31st annual ice show is “SABAHFest 2009.”  Ice-skating performances featuring SABAH’s skating athletes will put the spotlight on the many festivals that take place around the world and in the Western New York region, including The Renaissance, German and Italian Festival.  Songs include soundtracks from Shrek and Nightmare Before Christmas” among others.

The event showcases the achievements of over 650 challenged athletes and 400 volunteers. “Each year the show brings excitement and fulfillment to our athletes, who work hard all year to show what they can do,” said Sheila O’Brien, Executive Director. “Their accomplishments epitomize the heart of Western New Yorkers.”

Major corporate sponsors of SABAH and the 2009 Celebration on Ice include The Buffalo Sabres, Wegmans, National Fire Adjustment Inc. (NFA), HSBC Bank, Diversified Manufacturing, Inc. All show tickets are $8.00 and are reserved seating. They can be purchased through the SABAH office at 362.9600, the HSBC Arena Box Office and at all tickets.com outlets, including participating Tops Markets.  Tickets are also available online at www.tickets.com and will be available for purchase at the door.

SABAH, a 501(c)(3) charity, provides recreational education through therapeutic ice-skating for local individuals of all ages challenged by physical, mental, and emotional disabilities.  Through SABAH’s programs, individuals with special needs develop critical skills that enable them to succeed in everyday life.  The organization offers programs throughout Erie and Niagara Counties seven days a week at five different rinks.  In addition, SABAH provides a special School-Time Program free of charge for local students facing both disabilities and low socio-economics.  Families affected by disabilities are encouraged to find out more by contacting SABAH at 362-9600 or visiting www.sabahinc.org.
